Xiaomi misses its smartphone sales targets (largely) due to component shortage
Analysts got it right by pointing to Xiaomi as one of the manufacturers most affected by the semiconductor shortage.
Xiaomi has indeed just announced that it will not achieve its smartphone sales targets for the current year, and not by a bit since the range is 10 to 20 million fewer copies compared to to the initial estimate. However, Xiaomi’s sales remain on the rise (+ 30%), but this growth remains insufficient to pass the bar of 200 million smartphones sold over the year, and therefore to move ahead of rival Apple (second in the world behind Samsung).
Xiaomi specifies that the serious shortage of components is the main cause of these mixed sales, and that these difficulties could last until the third quarter of the year 2022! The Chinese manufacturer is now the third largest seller of smartphones in the world, behind Apple and Samsung.
