Craftsmen prove that the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is not as fragile as its predecessor
A video of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 breakdown appeared on the web, which showed that the Koreans have worked on maintainability.
When the bendable smartphone from Samsung Galaxy Fold was presented, talk almost immediately began that this miracle could not be repaired. This idea was confirmed by several analyzes – indeed, the “clamshell” was very fragile.
For a whole year, Koreans have been working to make the new generation of smartphones more robust. And judging by the review by the guys from iFixit, they did it. More or less.
The first thing that caught the eye of the craftsmen was that the outer cover of the display and the rear glass moved away from their grooves too easily, you just need to apply enough heat and the parts are detached without further resistance. A huge number of small screws are found under the “hood”.
The specialists were pleased with the modular arrangement of the smartphone parts. It was also reassuring to have fewer cameras – the fewer parts, the easier the repairs. But, unfortunately, the problem of removing two batteries remains – it is still a tedious and a bit dangerous process.
iFixit’s new opening mechanisms on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 are not in their best light. The hinge system has been redesigned to have fewer parts, but is actually made up of awkward corners that prevent adequate repair access. But the foldable screen uses new glass instead of plastic, making it less fragile.
Despite all the improvements, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is still hardly maintainable. iFixit rated the new product 3 out of 10 – just a point higher than the first Galaxy Fold.
