Ameca: the humanoid robot with ultra-realistic facial expressions
“It’s only a matter of time . ” Almost all of our sci-fi fantasies and their realization in our real world are based on this simple phrase.
It’s only a matter of time before the voice assistants in our mobiles become as intelligent and flirtatious as Her’s suave AI, it’s only a matter of time before the human asks a question. foot on Mars, it’s only a matter of time before VR headsets project us into an alternate reality as realistic as the one in the movie Ready Player One , and it’s also only a matter of time before humanoid robots don’t become indistinguishable from real humans, like in Ex-Machina… or like the Ameca prototype from Engineered Arts .
The humanoid Ameca is not just an animatronic, and of course, is not in CGI rendering. This robot is based on the Ameca Humanoid robot AI platform, which will be unveiled in more detail at CES 2022 (in a few weeks therefore). This first demo is in any case astounding as the slightest movements of the face are reproduced to near perfection. The gestures of the arms, hands and fingers are at the same level of realism. We don’t yet know what the startup Engineered Arts really intends to do with its robots , but it has just had a big blow.
